Eight places, in the order you are most likely to want them. No walking times, because none of them has been measured yet and a made up minute figure is worse than none.
The night food street
Open late, loud, and lined with plastic stools set out on the road itself. Stalls run down both sides for the length of it, grilling and frying more or less continuously. Travelogue Guesthouse walks down for a group dinner that meets at 8:30 PM, and it is the one activity on the board with no transport to pay for.
Shopping and the cinema
The big mall on Jalan Bukit Bintang: the shops, a cinema, a food hall in the basement and air conditioning for when the afternoon gets too much, which it will. It is also the landmark everybody gives directions from, so it is worth knowing where it is even if you never go in.
Rail across the city
The MRT station on Jalan Bukit Bintang, on the Kajang line. It is what most guests use to get anywhere that is not walkable, and it connects on to the rest of the network, which is how you reach the parts of Kuala Lumpur that are not Bukit Bintang.
North towards KL Sentral
The monorail runs on an elevated track above the street and heads north towards KL Sentral, which is where the airport train comes in. If you arrived at KLIA and took the train, this is the line that brought you the last part of the way.
A mall with a theme park in it
Indoor rollercoasters on the upper floors, which is a strange and very good way to spend a wet afternoon, and Kuala Lumpur has wet afternoons. Same district, the other end of it, and a mall underneath the theme park if the rides are not for you.
The towers, the park and the fountains
The towers at twilight, the park behind them and the fountain and light show after dark, which runs more than once so nobody has to hurry. Travelogue Guesthouse runs a night tour there every Tuesday and Friday at 7:00 PM, timed so the group arrives while the sky is still blue behind the towers.
Petaling Street and the temples
Kwai Chai Hong with its red lanterns, the murals down both walls of it, Petaling Street’s covered market and two temples a few streets apart, one Hindu and one Chinese. The hostel goes in the morning and everybody eats together at the end of it.
The bar street, one block up
The street that runs parallel to Jalan Alor one block north, and where the district goes after dinner. Bars and terraces down both sides, most of them open to the pavement, and it is a two minute walk from the food stalls rather than a taxi ride.

Bukit Bintang station is on Jalan Bukit Bintang. The Kajang line runs across the middle of the city and interchanges with everything else, which makes it the one most guests end up using.
The elevated line above the street. It runs to KL Sentral, which is the interchange for the airport train and for the intercity services.
Jalan Alor, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Changkat and the two stations are all on or beside the street the hostel is on. Most of a stay here happens without transport at all.
Bukit Bintang is a different place at three in the afternoon and at eleven at night, and it is worth knowing which one you are booking.
